Chris Wreaves

Hi! I'm Chris, a private tutor offering specialist tuition in GCSE and A-Level Maths and Further Maths.

Teaching has always been something I've wanted to do and I know from experience that I'm good at explaining things, so tutoring is the perfect way for me to do just that! I'm excited to be able to help you to thrive at maths and see it in a different way to how you might see it now. The thought of a student realising they get a topic and can actually do it is awesome and a huge motivator for me. Besides, I just like doing maths :)

I have a first class degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Warwick  and 4 A-Levels, and spent 10 years after university working as a statistician for Royal Mail, completing several statistical analysis projects working with huge datasets, walking senior figures at Royal Mail and Ofcom through some of those analyses and what the results meant, preparing Excel training sessions for colleagues and becoming the go-to person amongst my colleagues when they needed help with statistics.

So you'll be being taught by someone who’s been there, done it and worn the T-shirt when it comes to studying, using and explaining maths and statistics, and coming from outside of a school teaching background, I can also potentially offer you a different perspective and way of teaching to what you may have seen in school, meaning a session with me is not just another maths lesson with another maths teacher.

There are 3 core principles which underpin my approach to tutoring:

  1. Show you why

We'll go through each topic in detail right from the very start. Together, we'll explore why things are true and see where all the different theorems and formulae you've seen in school come from. That way, you'll get a real sense of how everything fits together and feel like you truly understand the maths - because you do!

  1. Do what works

When it comes to solving maths problems, I’m a big believer in keeping things simple and sticking to reliable systematic approaches that work every time. I'll introduce you to simple, easy-to-follow techniques for solving problems which you can readily apply in your exam to make even difficult questions feel straightforward.

  1. Practice, practice, practice

There's only one way to get good at maths - to do lots of it! Therefore, you'll be tasked after the session with practising what you've learnt to build your confidence in the topic. You have to put the effort into this if you want to succeed - I can't do the exam for you!

Sounds good? Please drop me a message, and let's get started!
