Rose Guy

Hi, my name is Rose and I'm studying Biology at the University of Southampton. I have been tutoring independently for 3 years, specializing in GCSE English Language, Math's, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have loved every second of being a Tutor as I love helping students reach their potential using fun and engaging lessons.

In my life I have achieved multiple qualifications. In Year 11, I achieved all 7s and above in all 10 of my GCSEs. My A levels, unfortunately, were not sat by me due to Covid, and therefore are predicted grades. I did, however, complete an Extended Project Qualification, which I got an A* in. I have achieved my Bronze and Gold Duke of Edinburgh award, as well as multiple First Aid certifications, Life Saving certificates, and Food certificates. I thoroughly enjoy joining new clubs and making lots of friends, as seen by my participation in Army Cadets, Brownies, Scouts, Guides, Swimming societies and much, much more.

Moreover, I have had the delight of working with children of all ages in many careers, such as babysitting, tutoring, being a leader in summer camps and helping out with bouncy castles at parties. I love getting to know my students individually and learning what helps them achieve the best possible grades. I love receiving feedback from both the student and parent - positive or negative - as it allows me to grow and improve to better benefit the student.

To create the perfect personalized tutoring plan for your child, we will first have a parent and student meeting to identify how many and how often your child would like lessons; the topics they need help with, and their goals within the subject. Their goals could be getting a better grade, improving confidence, or exam technique! Sometimes students aren't sure of what they are unsure of or what their goals are - this is completely okay! In our first tutoring session, we will complete a mock paper, attempting questions together and looking at the different ways we can solve the questions. As we advance through the paper, we will create a list of topics they would like help with. Once we have created this list, I will then go away and create enjoyable and informative lessons for them. I always use a variety of sources when creating lesson plans and PowerPoints to ensure all my information is up to date and relevant to the student. This ensures that they are fully prepared for their exams and are confident with all the topics in their subject.

I'm very adaptable with my teaching style. A normal lesson, for example a math's lesson, would begin with a PowerPoint I've made, containing all of the information we need to know about the topic, as well as multiple example questions and detailed step by step workings. Once the student has grasped an understanding of the method, we will then spend the next 20/30 minutes practicing questions together, slowly progressing towards the harder exam questions that will allow them to reach the highest grades. By the end of the lesson, the student will be confident in that part of the topic, and will be able to apply and work out answers with confidence.
