Julia Joychan

Hello my name is Julia, I’m a third year medical student from Kent and Medway Medical School.
I’m an experienced tutor teaching Sciences across GCSE and A levels.
I come from a background of grammar school education, therefor I am also an experienced tutor for 11+ entrance exams.

For GCSE I achieved (9 & 8) for all subjects I teach, as well as 3 A’S for A levels, these grades allowed me to enter medical school and I am currently training to be a doctor.

I started teaching 3 years ago, starting with peers and friends and I currently perform teaching sessions for medicine in my university privately. I also help other aspiring medical students with application to university.
Because of my passion for teaching, I aspire to lecture for medical schools in the UK.

Having recently been through the university application process, I understand the expectations of students and want to help others succeed in their journey into ambitious courses.

I have vast knowledge and familiarity on current specification and syllabus across KS3, GCSE and A levels. Being the first year to sit the new 9-1 GCSE grading system I have valuable first hand experience and understanding of grade boundaries, techniques required to achieve top 9 and 8 grades and key question tips.

As a tutor I believe the best sessions are delivered through effective collaboration with my students, I aim to deliver effective sessions tailored for individual needs. Each student is different and each learning style must be appreciated to deliver great sessions and learning.

My tuition methods are flexible but the key principle of understanding content is at the heart of my sessions. This is fundamental to ensure students can use this understanding to apply concepts to exam questions and feel confident in their knowledge.

I would like to introduce a brief model about what my lessons would look like:
-Firstly, identifying areas the student identifies for needing improvement and to spent time clarifying why these topics are challenging
-Next, I will move onto teaching for sessions, this includes interactive and systematic approach to understanding and testing topics
-Finally, work will be set to consolidate learning undertaken in the session

Half of my aim is for students to have confident understanding in topics, the second half will be focused heavily on exam technique and ticking off marks the specification is looking for.
For 9 and 8 students, the trick is they understand what is required of the question to hit all the marks.
Closer to exam season we will approach tuition sessions strategically to strengthen examination and answering techniques.

I hope this brief introduction gave you a little insight into who I am. please get in contact with me if you would like to discuss tuition possibilities :)

Thank you so much for reading!
Julia :)
