Hello, 

 

I am Eppie, a qualified UK teacher. I have a Masters in Education and nearly 10 years teaching experience including as a Head of Maths in mainstream and specialist schools. 

 

My main subject is Maths with Biology and Chemistry. As I have worked in specialist schools, I am confident in teaching the curriculum from Primary to GCSE Higher level. I also support students with additional need such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, SpLD, ADHD and ASD. 

 

I specialise in highly personalised learning. I am flexible in my teaching style to suit the student's goal. My principal methods are outlined below however I am happy to adapt these to better support the student's preferred learning style. 

 

For exam prep, after deciding the skill, I will test the students prior knowledge by emailing some practice questions before we meet online. The student will complete them and their answers will dictate the content of the online lesson. During the lesson, I will explain and demonstrate the skills needed, providing feedback and direction. I will then set the student further independent practice as a homework and provide more feedback and follow up as needed. Their answers can direct our next lesson and whether we move onto a new skill or continue developing their understanding. This does require commitment and motivation from the student but is highly successful and does not have to be time consuming to have an impact. 

 

For general support, less time pressure allows for an investigative approach following mastery principals which have been proven to produce sustained progress. The content will still be closely aligned to the students' needs and will explore related topics as they appear. It fosters the confidence and independence to problem solve in a variety of contexts, building the general skills students require in all subjects.
