Teaching is my second career. From the beginning, I worked  with adults and young people in colleges and other places who had not grasped maths whilst going through the normal system. 

As a result, I have spent much time finding ways to open up the subject I love to as many people as possible. I am pleased to say that I have been very successful in achieving this.

I aim to explain what is going on in maths and how to approach it  rather than just teaching a series of  methods. I also appreciate that working with mathematical symbols is as much learning a language as any other.

As well as using visual and other hooks to help students learn, I also use humour. 

I have been very pleased to be able to reveal to a number of students who were in the maths doldrums that they were actually good at it.
