Robert Steele

I worked in software development and IT project management for over 20 years before becoming a maths teacher in 2011, so I know very well how maths skills can benefit you in your life after school, and I can help you understand how and where you might use the maths you are learning. I currently work as a specialist GCSE maths lecturer in a further education college and have a detailed knowledge of the 9-1 specification exam at both foundation and higher tiers. In 2018, I was awarded advanced teacher status by the society for education and training, and I also became a GCSE maths examiner with both AQA and Edexcel. Working with GCSE resit candidates, and being an exam paper marker, gives me first hand experience of common mistakes and misconceptions with maths and I use this experience to explain challenging topics in easier to understand ways. I regularly help students improve by one or even two grades and have very high success rates. Like most tutors, I started out tutoring in person at students' home, and I do still have some face-to-face clients.  Having said that, I am gradually moving new clients to online tuition, harnessing the power of technologies such as digital whiteboards, screen sharing, and video calling that allows tutors and students to work and communicate in real time.
