I am a very experienced teacher having taught in primary schools across London and the southeast for over 16 years. As a classroom teacher (Reception, KS1 and KS2), I also have experience teaching remotely during the national lockdowns of 2020/21. I have tutored a range of pupils in Reading, Maths (including KS3) and 11+ preparation. I was the Head of Creative Arts at my last school and love to develop Visual Arts skills and understanding. One of the highlights of the remote learning period was teaching Art online to classes of 5 year olds!
I graduated with a degree in Visual Communication before completing my PGCE at the University of Cambridge, and as well as teaching in the state and private sectors, I taught abroad while volunteering at a teacher training college in Nigeria for 3 years. Whilst there, I worked with local primary school teachers and helped to support lecturers to teach students about early years education. I now manage learning projects in a large art gallery in London while tutoring primary school aged children.
I am a very empathetic and caring teacher and believe that my students feel valued. I get to know their strengths as well as the things they feel less confident to tackle, and think of ways to bring a subject alive to them in new ways. I use a range of strategies to help engage young learners, including games, challenges and practical ways to solve problems. I am skilled in breaking down concepts in easy to understand ways to make lessons as engaging and stimulating as possible.
I am very creative and have eclectic interests which include puppetry, cinema, woodwork, sci-fi, history and current affairs. I grew up playing numerous musical instruments, but focus my time these days on my piano accordion. I love to learn and to nurture a love of learning in others.
