I seek to guide students to systematically craft an overarching point / thesis statement in response to a question which provides a secure foundation for precise and developed analysis while demonstrating clear and insightful understanding of a text as a whole. This includes enabling them to habitually include specific phrases and contextual soundbites that work in tandem with steps for success to give clear direction and purpose to extended responses.
