Bio

I have been a successful full-time private English tutor since 2021, providing comprehensive educational support to a diverse range of students. Throughout my tenure, I have had the privilege of teaching and mentoring over 40 students, each with unique learning needs and goals.

I provide high-quality individual and small group tutoring for children, young people and adults who need support with English and would like to improve their confidence in their abilities. In addition, I offer specialist tuition and comprehensive learning support to students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) who find coping in a school or college environment challenging and may need additional tutoring, guidance and support in the following areas:

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), delayed learning development (DLD), global developmental delay (GLD), sensory processing disorder (SPD), dyslexia, dysgraphia, focus and concentration difficulties, and other additional needs.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Further Education (FE)
Providing individual and small group support, I teach English, maths and practical life skills to students aged 16 to 26 with mild-to-moderate additional and special educational needs and disabilities. Lessons take place in schools and colleges or in the student’s home.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Primary and Secondary Education (KS1 to KS4)

Providing individual and small group support. I prepare resources, develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of students. I collaborate with the classroom teacher to define appropriate activities for students in relation to the curriculum. Lessons take place at school or in the student’s home and I work closely with parents, carers and guardians.

Primary (KS1 & KS2)

I tutor mixed-ability pupils on an individual or small-group basis to support and develop their learning. I work closely with my pupils using a variety of teaching methods. Developing individual structured lesson plans and resources tailored to the pupil’s needs and learning styles enables me to determine their strengths and weaknesses and how they learn best. Upon request, I will provide post-lesson written or verbal feedback to parents about their child’s progress in lessons.

Secondary (KS3 & KS4) GCSE English Language and Literature

I am experienced in supporting students with English from Year 7 to Year 11. I offer tailored personal tutoring to prepare students for their literature and language GCSEs. I am familiar with the AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards.

I provide tuition for:

-  Exam preparation, revision and study skills
-  Promoting a deeper understanding of course materials
-  Revising with past papers
-  GCSE retakes
-  Building confidence with exams

11 Plus English Exam

I have successfully prepared Year 6 pupils for their 11 Plus English exams towards their target schools. My tuition covers Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. This is a challenging time for children where they can feel apprehensive about their 11 Plus exams. As well as supporting pupils academically, being mindful of their emotional well-being and helping them to feel calm and collected in readiness for their exams are part and parcel of my tutoring process. I am familiar with the formats of the following exam boards: CEM, GL, ISEB, Bond.

English as a Foreign Language (EFL)

I offer tailored language tuition to non-native English speakers, supporting their development in formal grammar, vocabulary, and the accurate pronunciation of English in both oral and written contexts. This enables students to communicate confidently and effectively with native speakers.

Functional Skills English (EL1 to Level 2)

Includes the planning and delivery of high-quality teaching, learning and assessment. My students have achieved success rates that were consistently above the national average pass rates, and I was commended by OFSTED on the high quality of my teaching, assessments and resources.

Speaking, Listening and Communication

As an experienced Speaking, Listening and Communication tutor I have achieved fantastic success with some of the most nervous and anxious individuals who have been convinced that they will never be able to speak publicly. It is greatly rewarding to watch my students’ confidence grow and flourish as we work together.

Tutoring Approach

I have a calm, patient and encouraging approach. Listening and reflecting are very important for developing a good rapport, so I am always keen to get to know what my students are interested in, what motivates them and what is meaningful to them.

My tutoring sessions are designed to be engaging, stimulating and enjoyable, placing emphasis on learning and progress. Being approachable and non-judgmental helps build a trusting relationship with my students, opens the lines of communication, and creates a platform for my students to confidently ask questions and share with me how they feel they are progressing. I provide constructive feedback to students in a way that improves confidence in their own abilities.

Using flexible and creative lesson planning, I tailor my lessons to meet individual learning requirements. For example, breaking down a task into smaller, achievable steps makes it more easily understood and mentally manageable. Setting regular tasks and activities ensures a full understanding of what we are learning.

Professional and organised with an excellent knowledge of my subject area, I stay up to date with the ever-changing Key Stage curriculum and exam requirements.

I take great pride in championing my students. I have a ‘can do’ attitude and communicate positive expectations by showing my students that I believe they have the ability to do well and achieve. My students` success is my number one priority and my aim is to provide the right support so that they can progress to the very best of their ability.

In a nutshell, I have a love for teaching and helping people learn.
